Phulbani: Police Wednesday arrested a school manager on the charge of misleading cops by filing a false case of moneybag-snatching. He was MD Nurali of Baliguda area in Kandhamal district.
He came up with the claim of snatching a few days after the Cuttack police arrested a man for misleading the cops by registering a fake complaint that he was robbed of Rs 27lakh.
Police said Nurali filed a false complaint at the Daringbadi police station alleging that his bag containing more than Rs 5lakh was snatched away April 3 by some unidentified men near Patangi in Daringbadi. After preliminary investigation, police found Nurali hatched the robbery plot so as to embezzle the money. It also became apparent that Nurali’s wife, the school principal, was also involved in the conspiracy.
Nurali later confessed that he had planned and executed the crime all alone and that his wife had no role.
“We were able to crack the case after finding some vital leads that established the role of an insider. The accused has confessed that there was no snatching and he simply cooked up the story,” Daringbadi IIC Srikant Khamari said.
