Bhubaneswar, Feb 14: The East Coast Railway has slapped fines on 3.22 lakh ticketless passengers between April 2014 and January last, generating a revenue of Rs 13.19 crore. The collection was 31.41 per cent more than the corresponding period of last fiscal.
The ECoR has been conducting surprise checks to deter people travelling without valid tickets across its jurisdiction. According to an ECoR press release, 40,870 ticketless passengers were imposed fines in January, 65.13 per cent more than January, 2014 and collected Rs1.61 crore.
In January 2014, the railways had slapped a fine on 24, 750 passengers and posted revenue of Rs 98 lakh. ECoR has pressed an army of checking squads backed by security personnel of Railway Protection Force at different stations.
