Nayagarh: Tension erupted at a hospital in Odisha’s Nayagarh district Thursday after the death of a 4-month-old boy, whose family alleged negligence in treatment.

The infant was identified as Om Prakash Dalei of Rautarapur village in Nayagarh district.

The family members alleged that the child had been given a polio vaccine and an injection by an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) in Bodapada village Wednesday. Afterwards, bleeding began from the injection site and did not stop.

The child was admitted to the Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital, where his condition improved and he was discharged. But Thursday morning, his health worsened and he died soon after being brought back, relatives said.

The death triggered unrest at the hospital around 12:20 pm, with agitated family members and locals alleging negligence. Police intervened after protesters attempted to break in, and the situation was brought under control after nearly 10 minutes of commotion.

A complaint has been lodged with Nayagarh Town police, who said they are investigating the matter.
