Lanjigarh: In a heartrending incident, a man died while his wife was left battling for life after they consumed poison over a family feud at Kuburi village under Biswanathpur police limits in Kalahandi district Sunday. The deceased was Sanduru Majhi (50) while his wife Duta Majhi (45) was critical.
Even many years after marriage, the couple was always on loggerheads over family issues. This created tension in the family and among their children.
Things took an ugly turn after the couple broke into an altercation over some issue Saturday night. Frustrated over their fights, the couple’s daughter Sangita Majhi tried to pacify them, but in vain.
Losing her patience, Duta took pesticides and consumed it. Her children rescued her and admitted her to Biswanathpur government hospital from where she was shifted to Bhawanipatna district headquarters hospital (DHH) for further treatment where her condition was stated critical.
On the other hand, the tense husband after seeing his wife’s condition, consumed the same pesticide while his children were busy attending to their mother. Neighbours spotted him vomiting blood and tried to admit him to a hospital. However, Sanduru died on his way to the hospital.
Acting on a complaint by the couple’s daughter, police registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for post-mortem. Fearing that their mother might die, her children kept the death of their father a secret, it was learnt.
“A petty issue turned into such a huge issue,” villagers said taking pity over the couple’s children who were left between the death of their father and an ailing mother in the hospital.
