The incident was reported from Ashamguda village under Umerkote police limits in Nabarangpur district. The victims lodged separate complaints with police against the villagers.

According to reports, the man identified as Rajkishore reached the village in an SUV late Thursday night and parked it near the house of the woman. Later, he entered her house.

Meanwhile, the villagers suddenly spotted the vehicle in the middle of the village and looked for its owner. Some of them even spread the rumour that a child-lifter is in the village. People gathered near the SUV to catch hold of the ‘child-lifter’.

Rajkishore turned up at the spot after a few hours. On being questioned, he said he came to meet the woman. This didn’t go down well with the locals as the woman’s husband was absent at that time. They immediately called her husband. After arrival of the latter, the villagers tonsured the heads of the woman and Rajkishore and beat up the duo severely. Angry mob also tied their hands, paraded them in the village and shot the incident which went viral Friday.

On being alerted, police arrived at the spot and rescued the two.

Later, both filed complaints against the villagers alleging violation of their human rights.

The woman said Rajkishore only sought help as his vehicle suffered a break down in the odd hours.

On the other hand, Rajkishore in his complaint said the villagers had snatched Rs 40,000 from him when he came back to his vehicle.

Meanwhile, police detained three villagers including the husband of the woman over the issue.

Woman’s husband is a timber trader and he is learnt to have borrowed money from a couple of persons of other areas but didn’t refund them.
