Man critical in tusker attack

Angul: A farmer sustained critical injury in an elephant attack at Talagarh village under Bantala Forest Range in this district Tuesday.

The deceased has been identified as Sarat Chandra Sethi.

According to reports, when Sethi was on his way to Bantala market to sell his produce in the morning, he came across a wild tusker. The jumbo attacked him with its tusks following which Sethi suffered grievous injuries on head, hand and leg.

Later, he had been rushed to Angul DHH.

Tension gripped the village following the incident as angry locals detained forest officials who reached there to take stock of the situation.

The local people demanded compensation to Sethi’s family.

The forest department has directed its officials to keep a tight vigil on elephant movement in and around the village.
