Rairangpur: An elderly woman was crushed to death after a truck rammed into her house at Purunapani village on National Highway-220 under Rairangpur police limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Kamala Patra, 65, a resident of Purunapani village.
Sources said, Kamala was asleep when the truck rammed into the house injuring Kamala critically. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared her dead.
Tension ran high following the mishap as villagers and kin of the deceased staged a roadblock on the national highway demanding compensation.
On being informed, Rairangpur Town police reached the spot and were trying to pacify the agitators. Police seized the truck and initiated an investigation into the incident.
Vehicular movement was disrupted from both sides, much to the inconvenience of commuters.
