Bhubaneswar: As part of the three-day celebration of National Sports Day from August 29 to August 31 across the country, the state’s Sports and Youth Services department, in collaboration with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Odisha Cycling Association, organised ‘Sundays on Cycle’ campaign at Kalinga Stadium here Sunday.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of hundreds of citizens who came together to spread the idea of fitness, healthy living and social unity.
The cycle rally encouraged people to adopt an active lifestyle while supporting the vision of ‘Fit India Movement’.
Joining as the chief guest, Sports and Youth Services Minister Suryabanshi Suraj flagged off the cycle rally.
Addressing the gathering, he said, “National Sports Day is not only a tribute to our sporting icons but also a reminder for every citizen to embrace fitness and well-being.
Through today’s cycle rally, we are encouraging everyone to remain active and healthy. Similar rallies have been organised in various districts of the state, receiving tremendous public response.
To build a fit and healthy Odisha, activities like yoga, exercise and cycling should become a part of our daily routine.”
Odisha Cycling Association president Minati Mahapatra, Hockey Promotion Council Odisha CEO Deepankar Mahapatra, department’s additional secretaries Ashok Kumar Panda and Bijay Kumar Swain were present in today’s event.
