School peon hangs self in Koraput

Nandapur: A peon ended life by hanging himself at Jabagada Project Upper Primary (UP) School under Nandapur block of Koraput district Thursday morning, police said. The deceased was identified as Shiba Nayak, 40, who worked as a peon at the state-run school that has residential facilities for students of SC & ST communities.

Based on complaints filed by headmaster Ramesh Chandra Khosla and Shiba’s wife, Sumitra Naikam, Machhkund police registered a case (1/2026) of unnatural death and sent the body to Lamtaput CHC for postmortem, said IIC Kulamani Buruda. Preliminary investigation suggests Shiba had been staying in the school hostel for the past four-five days due to reported family disputes and had not returned home. Police suspect that after completing hostel duties Wednesday night, he allegedly hanged himself from a ceiling fan in the office room using a piece of cloth.
