New Delhi: The second edition of Orissa Parba starting at the India Gate lawns in the national capital March 9 is likely to use the Paika rebellion as their main theme to attract Oriyas and non-Oriyas here to the grand festival. Addressing the media here Tuesday, the Oriya Samaj, the organiser of the grand event, said that the design of the grand fair would be based on the theme of the Paika rebellion where attempts would be made to relive the historic moment. Sidhartha Pradhan, trustee of the organisation said, “This time the show would be grander. Last year we had 25 stalls for the show while this time it has been extended to 80. We have also added new features like fashion show which will portray the rich handloom from Orissa besides live art demonstration and sculpture gallery.” The organisers are also working to magnify the portrait of the Paika rebellion through several attractions. Charudutt Panigrahi, member of the trust said, “A grand stage will be set up with backdrop of Barabati Fort. Multi projection film will also be used to narrate the story of the historic event of Orissa to the other world, many of whom are not aware of the movement.” Panigrahi also said that a special coffee table book would also be launched which will portray the real stories of the freedom fighters, compiled after talking to their family members besides several pictures related to the movement to give the readers an insight of about the movement. The event has been decided to be presided by the Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu, Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on different days of the three-day from March 9-March 11. The event has been planned on an area of 2,60,000 sqft. The organisers told reporters here that attempts have also been made to ensure that more varieties of Oriya cuisine are made available at the event.
